Not one media player is the same, they all have different tricks to make the best out the video you are trying to play and all them work different.
VLC is my favourite media player and lot of peoples favourite media player, loads fast stays hidden when not in use and very powerful when in use.
Gom player is starting to get a following on the web with it being able to play broken movie files or movies that are currently being downloaded if you don't like waiting.
Media Player Classic, if it aint broken don't fix it, this is by far the oldest out of the rest but what can i say it works and plays any file you throw at it.  BS player is always under development keeping it's place as one of the top 10 versatile media players on the web{jwfbcomments-on}
