Locals say the skip gave the painting its allure because it created an image of a seagull stealing chips.

The council in Lowestoft has forced the skip removed from reluctant home owners amid concerns over people dumping rubbish in it. The home owners have since protected it encased with a plastic frame on closer inspection, It was taken away in December 2022, leaving many in the local area angry. The landlord for the block of flats also confirmed that the skip had been taken at the council's request.

Local art dealer, John Brandler, criticised the decision to tamper with the artwork which he estimated was worth anywhere between £250,000 to £2million in 2022.

He continued to say :- "It has value as a big painting but the value of it to buy is negligible compared to the value it would have had as a tourist attraction to the town."

Wishing to remain unnamed, they said:- "East Suffolk Council complained about the mess and wanted to remove the barriers, the skip, and the protective screening.
"We have it in storage. We have secured the protective screening and cleaned up the area."
