The outside looks a little gimmicky with stalls and souvenirs shops but the closer you get to the redbricked entrance the more professional it appears it just seems to be swamped on the outdoor highstreets with souvenir stalls selling tat.
You can see the dozer equipment just over the fence just tearing the earth below for modern structures, only possible on outskirts.

It's amazing how easy it seems to be for the outskirts of pompeii to get construction approval because the outskirts of an ancient city has its own story as that's where you would hoard assets away from prying eyes of Roman guarded merchant cities such as this one was, it looks alot easier to get construction permits on the outside because as you get a few hundred meters past this area any construction approval becomes impossible.
