Manarola is one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre. Most of the houses are bright and colourful. Manarola was celebrated in paintings by Antonio Discovolo (1874–1956).

The place-name comes from "Manium Arula", a small temple dedicated to the Manes, built here in Roman times. It is connected to Riomaggiore, of which it is an outlying village, by the famous Via dell'Amore. Swimming local explorers claim you can swim undeneath that town adjacent to here.

In Manarola Manarola there is no beach but you can still swim at marina there is no beach it is possible to swim in the breakwater cliff just below the town in Corniglia it is possible to swim under the village.

 

No one (even residents!) can enter the town with private cars, except for short periods for loading and unloading vehicles.
